Apple Cinnamon Bread

At this moment, while I’m writing this blog, the house smells of delicious cinnamon and apple delight. When my siblings and I were younger, my family would go to the pumpkin patch every year; once we outgrew that tradition, we made a new one. Our new autumn haunt is the apple orchard, a place of overexpensive all-natural goods and delicious apple cider donuts.

Last weekend, I had the delight of going to the apple orchard, picking from the delicious honeycrisp, gala, and pink luster apples, stuffing as many as possible in the small quarter peck bags, and tasting the different apples as we moved among the endless rows of apple trees. You learn more about the different types of apples at an orchard, where you can pick them fresh and actually taste the difference between them. No offense to grocery store apples, but fresh apples right off the tree are incredibly addicting. I remember the first year we went; I liked apples, sure, but they were just okay. Just apples. But the moment I bit into one of our delicious fresh apples, all other apples were immediately ruined for me. The fresh ones were juicier, sweeter, and more flavorful than their store-bought brethren. I would voluntarily eat plenty of the fresh apples, and after our trip to the apple orchard I would splurge and eat some apple every day, whether it was apple slices or a baked apple treat. Honestly, going back to regular apples was always an adjustment once we ran out of the orchard's fresh ones.

However, bringing us back to the amazing smell of cinnamon currently wafting around my house: apple cinnamon bread. Every autumn (specifically after our apple orchard escapade) my mom always makes delicious apple cinnamon bread. It's soft and warm, with lots of cinnamon and small, thin apple slives baked into the loaf. Sometimes I’d help her make it; honestly, it's deserved since I practically live on that stuff whenever she makes it. It’s perfect for a quick breakfast in the morning, snacking, and for your packed lunches. We all have those household staples, which is why I wanted to share this one with you. The recipe is by Ree Drummond, best known for her Food Network TV show The Pioneer Woman. Here’s the recipe, and I highly encourage you to try it!
