Almost Winter

I dread the cold, but I love winter. This season brings me both comfort and connection with those I care about, filled with warmth despite the frigid air outside. As a little girl, the first snowfall meant running up to the window with my siblings and watching glittering crystals float down from the sky. Later, when more snow accumulated, I went sledding with my family, and we all coasted down the white hills. Laughter while racing my sister and flying down miniature slopes still echoes in my ears. My memories of rolling snowmen with carrot noses, building snow forts for a temporary house, and intense snowball fights bring a smile to my face even now. Being older still evokes these warm emotions and feelings, even if my winter-time activities look different.

Today, winter means grabbing a warm blanket and hot chocolate, then sitting with my family on the couch and watching seasonal movies. Spending time with them brings me true holiday cheer. Fuzzy Christmas socks and matching plaid pajamas are the epitome of comfort from freezing weather outside. I appreciate Christmas shopping with my mom and sister, browsing cute seasonal decor at the open houses of small shops. It’s also a tradition that my family and our family friends view the Christmas lights together. I look forward to this little get-together because it reminds me of my childhood. I love attending tree lightings or light shows with those I care about. Winter provides another excuse to see beautiful light displays and have fun with friends.

Christmas is still my favorite holiday, just as when I was younger. This choice is due to time with family, not because I like to receive presents. I love to give others gifts and come up with ideas of presents that suit them. Additionally, seeing relatives on both sides of my family is always fun. Catching up with others and spending comforting time together are what make this holiday so special. This season, in all, strengthens my peaceful memories while simultaneously allowing me to create new ones. Whether it’s reminiscing on my childhood, winter activities, or seeing people I care about, winter encapsulates it all. When the weather drops, I know that it’s time for the warmest season.
