Senior Year

High school has been a time of countless important benchmarks. However, lots of my most unforgettable memories have been from senior year. My last day of high school has just passed, and I’m currently looking forward to my graduation ceremony. As excited as I am to finally be a college student, I will always cherish the last four years. My experiences throughout high school are making saying goodbye extremely bittersweet.

Earlier this year, I remember getting ready for my last homecoming football game. Although I’m not a big football fan, it’s always exciting to spend time with friends and dress up in the game’s spirit theme. This year, the theme was Red, White, and Blue. My friends and I grabbed retired Fourth of July gear and cheered on our school, and I will never forget all the fun times I spent under Friday Night Lights.

The conclusion of high school sports has also been very memorable. It used to be me who helped prepare Senior Night decorations for the oldest girls on the team, but this year, I became one of those seniors. At my Tennis and Badminton Senior Nights, it was very meaningful to see all the younger girls’ messages to me and the work they put into making the night feel special. It seems easy to forget what Senior Night really means with a sports game going on and big posters of the seniors hung up on the wall. My friends and teammates coming to cheer me on made the night even more meaningful. Similarly, walking with my amazing parents during my introduction reminded me how truly bittersweet it is to leave the sports behind.

Prom was also super fun! It may feel exaggerated in movies or shows, but I think Prom truly does become what you make of it. Although I felt like I had to rush to get ready after the badminton conference on the same day, taking photos with friends in our dresses and then dancing to the music was fun as always. I had also invited some friends over to make bouquets the day before, and they turned out very cute. Overall, I spent my last school dance having fun and laughing with the people who made my high school experience so special.

Decision Day was also very meaningful, with everyone showing off their future school or plans on t-shirts and hoodies. The atmosphere was full of excitement and support, with everyone wishing each other good luck with post-graduation plans. Then came the last day of school, with everyone wearing white shirts for others to sign with Sharpies, a full circle moment for me from the end of the school years after elementary and middle school. And the last class period of the year, with everyone coming together and counting down 5-4-3-2-1 until the final bell rang. My friends and I cheered to be done with high school, but I’ll also miss them so much in college. My family, especially my parents, have also been my biggest supporters throughout high school, and I can’t wait for them to cheer me on at graduation.

While I may have complained about how long the past four years have been, they truly have flown by–especially senior year. So, even though it’s been said before, don’t forget to enjoy the present!
