My Favorite Things About May

Once you get into high school, I feel like life becomes a whirlwind of emotions, especially in May. For some, it’s their last month of high school and being a ‘kid’ while everyone else has to worry about AP tests and finals. This month I’m really nervous for all the AP exams I have to take (6), but I’m also ready for summer. To remain positive, even though I’m stressed out and nervous, here are some things I enjoy about May!

1) My birthday - May 6th

I have an unfortunate birthday which occurs during the height of AP testing, and it’s sadly really cold this year. I’m still glad I can celebrate and not have a test on my birthday!

2) Celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Month

My Filipino identity is really important to me, and I enjoy taking the month to celebrate my culture!

3) Warmer weather

Even though it’s still cold, by the end of the month it gets warmer so I’m always excited about that.

4) Last few days of school

Some of my favorite days are the last few days of the school year. It feels like everyone is really excited and feels almost happier than the last few days before winter break. I think everything depends on the weather to boost people’s moods.

5) Memorial Day weekend

Every year I always end up having an eventful memorial day weekend. Last year we went to Utah and it was GORGEOUS. Years prior my family always had parties that weekend for some reason. It’s a true summer preview in my opinion.

6) Graduation

Although I’m not a senior yet, I love attending graduations and supporting my friends and family! This year I’m sad to see everyone go since I have a lot of friends in the senior class. But I’m excited to see my friends walk across the stage. Next year is my turn!

7) Mental Health Awareness Month

Mental health is super important to me, and I’d like to take more time this month to reflect on my life and take care of myself! I’m probably one of the only people that actually celebrate observance months, but I think it’s important to treat yourself and celebrate these months. This year I think I’m attending a mental health run and walk at my high school’s sister school!

8) White Sox Game

I’m going to a Sox game for free on May 8th with my best friend! She had a free ticket so I’m excited to go with her. Her brother plays in the middle school band and they always play the national anthem each year. I remember going my 8th grade year and it was an awesome experience.

Although I have a lot of tests this month, I’m excited to end school and enjoy some fun things!
